I have a medium super on each of my two hives which are half filled with honey both capped and uncapped. Can I leave these supers on the hives for extra stores for the winter and if so would I put them below or above the inner cover?
Sometimes the uncapped stores get moldy, but if it’s cold enough outside, it gives you more time. You can turn the frames upside down and shake them hard to remove most of the liquidy nectar, or you can just chance it. The mold won’t hurt your bees but it doesn’t smell good. In any case, it should go under the inner cover.

Barbara,

Many thanks. I think I’ll chance leaving them in, under the inner cover. I’ll let you know in the spring how it turns out.
